Rivals250 offensive lineman Robert Hainsey is off to an excellent start at IMG Academy. The Monroeville, Pa., native transferred from Gateway High School only a few weeks before preseason practice began but has already made a major im- pact, starting every game at leA tackle. However, as his father, Ron Hainsey, ex- plained, that's just a small part of the overall package that ultimately made the switch an easy decision. "Everything has been going really well for Robert. He's really happy down there," Ron Hainsey said. "From a football per- spective, he couldn't really ask for much more. He's been playing against excellent players in practice each day and they play some of the best teams across the nation. They also have excellent facilities, so he has the best of the best around him. "I know he also loves his coaches. Spencer Hodges, the offensive line coach, has been great to him. Robert is extremely happy with him. He's really been taking time and going out of his way to help Robert with whatever he needs. He just raves about him, so I think it's going really well. Plus, they take academics very seri- ous down there. They have study hall every night and he's doing great, so he re- ally couldn't ask for much more. It's been a great move for him." Hainsey has also seen his scholarship count grow considerably since moving to Bradenton, Fla. In addition to picking up an offer from Miami on Monday, he's also seen Maryland, Nebraska, Ohio State and South Carolina get involved. But Penn State and Michigan State are still the two schools that he speaks with most fre- quently. "He's still talking to Terry Smith regu- larly," Hainsey said, referring to the Penn State assistant coach. "When he actually moved down there, we set it up with Terry so it would still be easy for the two of them to continue talking regularly. They have an excellent relationship. Honestly, the whole family has a good relationship with Terry. We're very happy with him and all the coaches at Penn State. "The only other coach that I know he's consistently speaking with is Mark Staten at Michigan State. He really likes both of those coaches and is comfortable with both schools, so not much has changed there. I think he's really high on both schools. He's probably speaking with some other coaches, too. It's tough to know exactly who since I'm not down there, but I know both Michigan State and Penn State are still very high on his list." With Hainsey now residing in the heart of SEC country, there was some specula- tion among fans that he would become in- fatuated with some of the top Southern schools, but he has yet to visit any schools since enrolling at IMG. His father said there is a chance he'll join his teammates on a visit or two later in the year, but he hasn't made any firm plans yet. "They do have a bye week this week, and I know some of the coaches and players were thinking about going to one of the Florida schools or another school that's kind of close," Hainsey said. "So, he could end up seeing a school or two at some point this season, but he doesn't have anything in the works. These past few months have been all about football and academics." Hainsey is looking to see what he would need to do to potentially enroll early at the school of his choice. It's not definite, but he is working with his advisors at IMG to get his credits in line for a December 2016 graduation. "If he has to, he'll probably take a class or two in the summer to make sure he's on pace," Hainsey said. "If not, he'll basically just have to train for six months down there or come back home, so I know he re- ally wants to get everything set up so that he can enroll early. He really wants to do everything he can to put himself in a posi- tion where he could potentially play early." PENN STATE RADIO NETWORK WAEB............. 790-AM.......
