BAD NEWS Penn State's offense went into its all-too-famil- iar third-quarter funk, and the place- kicking unit raised another red flag when Joey Julius inexplica- bly missed back-to- back PATs and was pulled in the second half. THE TAKEAWAY Indi- ana was seriously shorthanded, but there was a lot to like about the Lions' per- formance, including the timing. Following the Nittany Lions' commanding 29- 7 win over the upstart Hoosiers, he had more than enough material to take on the postgame media room. Expressing his satisfaction with a performance that saw his Nittany Lions break out offensively for the first time all year, picking up a season-high 420 total yards, Franklin deadpanned the reason- ing behind the efforts many considered lackluster the past four weeks. Said the coach, "It really probably came down to, we just wanted to play as ugly as we possibly could for four weeks because we were just saving all that stuff up for this week."
