BAD REMINDER
For all the turnovers (4) and dropped
passes (6) at Clemson, the incredible
fact about the 24‑22 loss is we could still
have won — or at least tied and taken it
to overtime with all of the momentum
on our side — had either or both of the
following been done by the game of‑
ficials and the Notre Dame head coach:
1. At 2:20 left in the game, DeShone
Kizer lofted a beautiful pass perfectly
to our receiver, Chris Brown, in the end
zone for what would have been our
third touchdown of the fourth quarter
with 2:19 left to go. The "star' Clemson
defensive back running behind Brown
was pulling him by his jersey for all to
see (for about five yards into the end
zone) and thereby prevented Brown
from jumping up and out to make the
otherwise easy reception for the TD
that would have set up the two‑point
play to tie the game with more than
two minutes to play and two timeouts.
NO CALL BY THE OFFICIALS! A
reminder of the bad ACC referee call
that cost us a last minute winning TD
at Florida State last year!
2. With 14:13 to go in the game, Notre
Dame went for a two‑point conversion
after a quick TD putting us down 21‑9
— rather than kick the PAT and then
follow that one‑point post TD approach
until we were certain that we would no
longer have time on the clock to allow
a win or tie without risking a then nec-
essary two‑point try. That also resulted
in so much decision‑making confusion
on the sideline that we had to waste a
valuable timeout that we could really
have used in the final seconds of the
game.
It was a valiant comeback in weather
that merited a postponement of the con‑
test.
