ND SPORTS Irish Roundup WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY The No. 20 Irish placed third (143 points) in the Joe Piane Invitational at Notre Dame Golf Course Oct. 2. Senior Molly Seidel (third, 16:28.3) and freshman Anna Rohrer (eighth, 16:46.8) both overcame mid-week illnesses to place in the top 10 of the 5,000-meter race. Notre Dame was beaten by No. 1 New Mexico (29) and No. 27 North Carolina State (74). MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Notre Dame placed 10th out of 20 teams (239 points) in the Joe Piane Invitational at Notre Dame Golf Course Oct. 2. Senior Michael Clevenger was the Irish's top finisher, placing 12th with a time of 24:01.3 in the 8,000-meter race. WOMEN'S GOLF The Irish dominated the Chip-N Club Invitational Oct. 5-6 in Lincoln, Neb., topping the 13-team field by 30 strokes. They next head to the Cardinal Cup Oct. 19-20 at Louisville, Ky. MEN'S GOLF The Irish were off for the second consecutive weekend because the Tar Heel Invitational Oct. 3-4 in Cha- pel Hill, N.C., was cancelled due to inclement weather. They next traveled to the Crooked Stick Invitational Oct. 12-13 at Carmel, Ind. WOMEN'S SOCCER (8-3-1) The No. 14 Irish dropped a 1-0 double overtime loss at Miami Oct. 2, marking the third overtime contest in their last four matches. Hurricanes junior forward Gracie Lachowecki — sister of Irish men's soccer graduate student defender Max Lachowecki — drilled home the game-winning score for Miami in the 105th minute. Notre Dame started a three-game home stand versus Syracuse Oct. 8. MEN'S SOCCER (7-2-3) The No. 7 Irish posted a 1-1 tie after two overtime periods against North Carolina State Oct. 4 in Raleigh, N.C. Sophomore Jon Gallagher headed in a goal in the 33rd minute for Notre Dame before the Wolfpack tied it in the 76th minute. They followed that draw with another 1-1 tie versus Michigan at home Oct. 7. Notre Dame hosted ACC opponent Duke Oct. 10. VOLLEYBALL (5-11) Notre Dame dropped to 0-4 on their four-game home stand with a 3-0 loss to Boston College Oct. 2 and a 3-2 defeat to Syracuse Oct. 4.
