WHERE HAVE YOU GONE?
A late bloomer in football
blossoms early beyond the field

F
ormer 2001‑05 Notre Dame line‑
backer Corey Mays has had a way of
doing what is against the norm.
When he enrolled at Notre Dame in
2001 as a highly recruited linebacker,
the Morgan Park High product joined
All‑American nose guard Chris Zorich
(1987‑90) as one of the lone Chicago
Public League products to matriculate
to the university in the last quarter cen‑
tury, or ever.
After not getting drafted by the NFL,
Mays then ended up playing five full
seasons (2006‑10) in the league to earn
a future pension.
And today, the Chicago native has
developed an impressive business,
while becoming a voice and mentor to
a group — young girls — that he felt
has become an overlooked element in
society because of not always having
appropriate role models.
Since his retirement from football,
Mays has created six companies in his
portfolio known as A‑Maysing Enter‑
prises — "my own little Shark Tank,"
he said — and in 2010 he formed
Corey Mays, 2001-05 Linebacker
Mays enjoyed a strong fifth season in 2005 — recording 80 tackles, 12.5 stops for loss and five sacks —
when Notre Dame finished in the top 10 for the first time in 12 years.
