UNDER THE DOME
DeShone Kizer's Poise Impresses Even Himself
It's difficult to identify an environment more difficult for a first-year quar-
terback to make his road debut at than Clemson's Death Valley, but Notre
Dame coaches and players alike were extremely impressed with the way
Irish sophomore DeShone Kizer performed under pressure in a 24-22 loss at
Clemson Oct. 3.
Kizer completed 19 of 34 passes for 321 yards with two touchdowns and
one interception in the defeat, but the numbers do not display the poise the
CHARTING THE IRISH
PASS CATCHER TARGETS
During Notre Dame's 4-1 start, junior wide receiver Will Fuller
led Notre Dame in every significant receiving category, including
catches (24), yardage (491) and touchdowns (six). According to
Notre Dame's play-by-play data, he also led the team in being
targeted (40 times) and yards per target (12.3).
Fuller's 40 targets made up 28.6 percent of the team's total
through the first five games. Senior wide receiver Chris Brown's 33
targets made up an additional 23.6 percent, revealing that more
than half (52.2 percent) of Notre Dame's passes are targeted at
Fuller or Brown.
It's important to note that a targets-to-catches ratio shouldn't be
used solely to evaluate a receiver's ability to catch the ball. Some
targets may come on passes that are not as accurate as others.
