THIRD-DOWN DOMINANCE Notre Dame has thrived offensively on third down against the Midship- men, converting 55.3 percent of its at- tempts under head coach Brian Kelly. That continued this year, with the Irish offense converting 7 of 12 (58.3 per- cent) third downs. Stopping Navy on third down has been a different story. Going back to 2010, the Midshipmen offense had converted 39 of its 71 third-down at- tempts against Kelly-coached Irish teams, good for a 54.9-percent conver- sion rate. Notre Dame turned the tide in the 41- 24 victory, holding Navy to just 2 of 11 (18.2 percent) on third down.
