a great experience for him." It was also a trip that Vaughn said opened his eyes to what Notre Dame could offer him as both a football pro- gram and a school. "From the start, they just came after me so hard and made me a priority," Vaughn said. "When I got up there I got to see Coach [and recruiting coordina- tor Mike] Elston and the other coaches interact with the players. I could see that they actually care about their players and their futures, both on and off the field." Vaughn took his official visit to Notre Dame the weekend of Sept. 5 for the Texas game. He was scheduled to visit Tennessee before he announced a com- mitment on his 18th birthday, but he never ended up making the trip. He claims that Notre Dame was just too much of a fit for him. "They said they can see me starting out at corner, playing some nickel or maybe moving to safety," Vaughn said. "I'm pretty sure I can fit anywhere in their secondary, and they have a good one." Vaughn is set to become the first pros- pect in the Rivals era from the Memphis area to ink with the Irish, and the first from the state of Tennessee since offen- sive lineman Alex Bars in 2014. "It means a lot to me to come from Memphis and be able to go to Notre Dame," Vaughn said. "I like to push myself, so even if it means leaving the South, if it's a spot where they will push me on the field and in the class- room then I'm all for it." ✦ BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED • P.O.
