FOOTBALL RECRUITING ROUNDUP Recruiting Notes • Notre Dame knew that it was going to have to make up some ground with Carlo Kemp the weekend of Oct. 10, if the staff planned to be in the thick of things for the Boulder (Colo.) Fairview four-star defensive end. The Irish did just that. Following a two-night, two-day stay in South Bend, Kemp said Notre Dame is now tied with Michigan on his short list of schools. "They're at the top," Kemp said. "They're neck and neck with Michigan, for sure. I have had two great official visits to both schools, and it's going to be a very hard decision to make." Kemp, who is the nephew of Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pa- gano, visited Michigan the weekend of Sept. 25, and, like with his trip to Notre Dame, left with high remarks for the program. "There isn't pressure from either school," he said when asked about a decision date. "I would like to give you a timeline, but I find myself changing that anyway. It's just hard. You go to these schools, and you fall in love with all of them. I think I'll probably have to make a decision here in November, something no later than Dec. 1." Kemp plans to enroll early at the school of his choice. Rivals ranks the 6-3, 205-pound Kemp as the top recruit in Colorado, and the No. 9 weakside defensive end and No. 203 overall prospect in the country. • Kemp isn't the only defensive end that Notre Dame has gained traction with. Just a week after saying he was considering taking a visit to Notre Dame, Farmington Hills (Mich.) Harrison four-star defensive end Khalid Kareem decommitted from Alabama, and was in town for the Irish's showdown with USC Oct. 17. Kareem, who is listed as the No. 9 player in Michigan and the No. 19 weakside defensive end in the na- tion by Rivals, said that Irish defensive line coach Keith Gilmore is one of the reasons why he took the visit. "My relationship with Coach Gilmore is good," Kareem said. "He recruited me when he was at North Carolina, and he carried that relationship over when he got to Notre Dame. It's a real good relationship with him." The 6-4, 257-pound Kareem is also considering Michigan with his recruitment now open. — Andrew Ivins Follow @BGI_aivins on Twitter for daily recruiting updates available on BlueandGold.com!
