MICHIGAN BASKETBALL Albrecht is getting closer to 100 percent following two offseason hip surgeries, and junior wing Zak Irvin is well ahead of schedule following back surgery. He is expected to be back by the time the season starts. Michigan's younger players have benefited from the playing time avail- able in the veterans' absences. "The bad news was we had to play a lot of guys really early last year, and they probably weren't ready at times. The good news is they got in there … there are really only two new players this year," Beilein said. "We only practice two hours a week right now, but there are some signs showing we are not back at square one every day. There's some carryover." CARIS LEVERT EARNS SEVERAL PRESEASON HONORS Senior shooting guard Caris LeVert has made the watch list for the Nai- smith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame's Jerry West Award. The honor goes each year to the best shooting guard in the college game. Twenty players made the watch list, including three from the Big Ten: LeVert, Indiana's James Blackmon and Maryland's Rasheed Sulaimon. Senior shooting guard Caris LeVert was named preseason All-Big Ten, giving the Wolverines an honoree on the squad in four straight years. PHOTO BY PER KJELDSEN
