BASKETBALL RECRUITING The coaches saw a guard who would fit perfectly into their offense and whose personality fit with the players on the team. "I fit because I can play either guard spot. I'm a big guard, and they said they like players that can shoot, pass and dribble," Poole said. "I can shoot, but I can also set someone else up for an easy one with a pass. "They said they like my vision and that I make the right plays, smart plays and big plays. I knocked down some big shots, and that caught their eye when they were watching me." The U-M coaches showed Poole film on how they could use him to score from the point like former U-M guard Trey Burke, or from the wing like shooter Nik Stauskas. "I like how they do a lot of four- guard lineups, and they're worried more about getting a good shot when- ever it comes," he said. He also liked being the first Michi- gan offer in 2017. "I thought it was great," he said. "I really didn't know they hadn't of- fered anyone else until I got there. It shows they look for certain people and qualities, as far as basketball and personality. "Coach Beilein doesn't just give out offers. Some schools give out offer Class Of 2018 Notes • Ann Arbor Skyline sophomore combo guard Brandon Wade (5‑10, 160) was also in town during the Oct. 9 weekend and enjoyed his visit. "It was great," Wade said. "The atmosphere was crazy. The players and coach‑ ing staff were very welcoming, and they're really good at making it feel like we're a part of a family. The atmosphere in The Big House was second to none. I usually go to all the home games, and it's great to see that Michigan football is beginning to get back to where we started." Wade was also able to talk to head coach John Beilein, who had some encour‑ aging words for him. "He mentioned that there are five scholarships for that class, and that keeping my grades up was very important, as well as trying to get better and stronger on the court," he said. Wade noted he "loves" Michigan. • Class of 2018 standout guard Austin Boucher of Fort Wayne, Ind., was an‑ other in town for the Wolverines' football weekend with Northwestern. The versatile, 6‑2 sophomore isn't rated yet, but he was one of the standouts at the Michigan basketball camp this summer. • Another 2018 prospect who made the trek was East Lansing (Mich.) High's Brandon Johns. The 6‑7 standout is one of the top sophomores in the state and was slated to be back in Ann Arbor for Michigan football's home game with Michigan State. Johns averaged 13 points and 10 rebounds per game. Ohio State and Indiana are among the others involved.
