than the legendary Lenny Moore

T
he greatest player in Penn State foot-
ball history is not and never will be
in the College Football Hall of Fame.
Of course, that definitive claim about
halfback Leonard Edward Moore is guar-
anteed to start an argument. After all, a
few thousand men have played for Penn
State since 1887, and 23 of them are en-
shrined in the pantheon of college football,
two as head coaches.
One, tailback John Cappelletti, is the
only Penn State player to win the Heis-
man Trophy. He also won the Maxwell
Award as "the most outstanding player
in college football." Three other Hall of
Famers have also have won the Maxwell
Award as well as two Nittany Lion All-
Americans who were runners-up in the
Heisman.
Don't take my word for placing Lenny
Moore at the top of Mount Nittany.

player I ever coached," the late Joe Paterno
