The Fighting Irish did not go to a bowl game that season, but even if they had the bowl stats would not have been included. That changed in 2003, when the NCAA decided to add bowl game numbers to the regular season. If that were done retroactively, then both Allen Pinkett in 1983 (111 yards rushing in the 19-18 Liberty Bowl win versus Boston College) and Reggie Brooks (115 yards in the 28-3 Cotton Bowl victory against Texas A&M) would rank ahead of Ferguson. Current senior C.J. Prosise had 922 yards rushing entering the Temple game Oct. 31. Including a bowl outing, over the final six games he would need to average 97.3 yards per game to set a new single-season rushing record for the Irish. Here are the top five single-season rushing outputs at Notre Dame when including bowl data: Player (Year) Carries-Yards 1. Allen Pinkett (1983) 280-1,505 2. Reggie Brooks (1992) 189-1,458 3. Vagas Ferguson (1979) 301-1,437 4. Autry Denson (1997) 284-1,369 5. Julius Jones (2003) 229-1,341 MOVING? Let our customer service department know your new address! CALL US 1‑800‑421‑7751
