With the Irish leading 14-0 in the second quarter, Adams found the out- side and scampered those 98 yards to tie the Football Bowl Subdivision record for longest run by a freshman, previously held by Tulane's Jerald Sowell (1993) and Middle Tennessee State's Jordan Parker (2012). With Prosise out due to a lingering concussion suffered the previous week at Pittsburgh, Adams led the Irish rushing attack with 141 yards on 17 carries. Kizer also aided the ground game, rushing for 30 yards and two scores while passing for 111 yards. Outside of the 98-yard run, the Notre Dame offense struggled for most of the afternoon. Wake Forest's Sophomore quarterback DeShone Kizer and the Notre Dame offense were limited to 49 plays and 282 yards of total offense, but they were able to do enough to come away with a 21-point win.
