M . | D E C . 1 3 | B R Y C E J O R D A N C E N T E R | B T N P L U S The Nittany Lions' quest for the Big Ten dual meet title will begin at home (albeit on the opposite end of campus) when they play host to the Badgers. Their conference opener is the 7rst of two dual meets slated to take place in the Bryce Jordan Center this season, with the other set for Feb. 5 when defending national champion Ohio State heads to University Park. The Nittany Lions have fared well in recent years – both on the mat and at the gate – when they've ventured outside of Rec Hall's friendly con7nes and headed across campus. They set an NCAA dual meet attendance record two years ago against Pitt and nearly matched it last year when they welcomed Iowa. (The record was recently broken by the Hawkeyes.) Wisconsin features a number of highly regard- ed wrestlers, a list headlined by junior Isaac Jordan, who won the Big Ten title at 165 pounds this past March and is a two-time All-American. Other Badger standouts in- clude Ryan Taylor at 133 and Ricky Robertson at 174. Penn State, meanwhile, was ranked No. 1 in FloWrestling's preseason poll and also in the InterMat Tournament Power Index. Should be a fun night in the Lions' home away from home. – M.H. SCORECARD 36. Michigan State finished third in this year's race with 104 points. In addition to Gerlach, Chikotas and Hunsbrger, redshirt freshman Tessa Barrett finished in 12th place, while junior Julie Kocjancic was 22nd and junior Stephanie Aldrich 25th. "It's exciting," Gondak said. "This is the ninth conference champi- onship that I've been a part of but the first one as a head coach. I'm re- ally proud of the way the women competed today." Gerlach, who received first-team All-Conference honors along with Chikotas, said the team's goal going into the meet was to bring home the title. "Going into every race, we have the same plan: Just pack up and stay confident," she said. "I think today it just finally clicked. We've been working so hard this season, and I think now that it's championship time this is a really great start toward the national championships." Following their victory at Big Tens, the Nittany Lions moved up five spots to No. 10 in the Division I rankings. It was their first appear- ance in the national top 10 since week seven of the 2012 season. In the regional rankings, the Lions occupied the No. 1 spot in the mid- Atlantic, and they proved that rank- ing justified on Nov. 13 by finishing first at the regional championships in Princeton, N.J. This time it was Barrett pacing Penn State with a time of 21:02.2 to finish in fourth place. Gerlach was sixth (21:09.2) and Chikotas 10th (21:15.4). Two other Penn State run- ners – Kocjancic and Hunsberger – were among the top 25 finishers, coming in 19th and 21st, respective- ly. The victory in the Mid-Atlantic Regional was the Nittany Lions' first since 2012 when they played host to the event. The team advanced to the NCAA Division I championship meet, scheduled for Nov. 21 at Louisville, Ky. ■
