M ichigan interim Director of Ath- letics Jim Hackett worked some wonders in his stint thus far, landing both Jim Harbaugh and Nike. Hackett will not be staying on for the long term, however. M i c h i g a n h a s a n - nounced the school is launching a national search for his successor, and University President Mark Schlissel has ap- pointed a search advi- sory committee. "He stepped up at a challenging time in Michigan athletic history, our football program's history," Schlissel said of Hackett. "His perfor- mance as interim AD has been absolutely stellar in every regard. "Jim doesn't just do the right thing. He does the right things the right way. He's really been a tremendous leader." Schlissel indicated that Turnkey Search, a subsidiary of Turnkey Sports and Entertainment, will assist with the search, beginning immediately. The search committee includes Hackett; Liz Barry, special counsel to Schlissel; Anne Curzan, a U-M English language and literature professor; Corinne Har- ris, a women's soccer team co-captain; Kevin Hegarty, executive vice president and chief fi- nancial officer; Dr. Stefan G. Humphries, a former Michigan football player and director at Renown Rehabilitation Hospital in Nevada; and Carol Hutchins, Michigan soft- ball coach. Hackett indicated he'll continue on in his cur- rent post until a new AD is put in place, noting the decision to step down is a difficult one. "It's painful," Hackett said, "because the love story is real. It's not easy to have the circle close in the way I'm doing it now."
