FOOTBALL RECRUITING overall prospect in the nation — has long been considered an Oklahoma lean, but he alluded after the visit that the Irish will likely be in the mix until National Signing Day Feb. 3, when he plans to make a decision. "You can definitely feel what it's like to be a student when you're there. Everybody is talking about the tradi- tions that are there," the 6-3, 214-pound linebacker said. "If I walked here or if I touched this, I wouldn't graduate. There is a lot of history and tradition there. It was pretty funny and pretty cool to hear about all the traditions." Kelly said that one of the highlights of the trip was talking one-on-one with Irish head coach Brian Kelly. "Of course, Coach Kelly said there is a Kelly connection," Kelly joked. "He said I'm just different because of my length and what I could bring to the defense. He said I would fit right in with the team there and that he could see that with the players there. He talked about the team and the athletics and the all- around package." Both Kelly and Fuller will play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Jan. 9 in San Antonio. While there's a chance that either could look to wrap up their recruitments by then, both are expected to continue to evaluate their options well into the January contact period. "I think it's a great place," Fuller said when asked where Notre Dame stands following the banquet visit. "There are really good people there. It's not really a big school, but that's not a bad thing. I just like it a lot espe- cially with life after football." ✦ Practice your golf skills on the ND hitting mat! • Generous, but portable size: 20" x 17" • Ideal for driving and chipping • Removable tee that also accepts wooden tees • Variety of holes and positions to choose from • Perfect for left and right handed golfers • Cups to hold balls and tees • Convenient handle for carrying • Heavy duty base and turf for years of use • Stays in place — anchor mat in four corners with tees • Saves your lawn from divots • Officially licensed Notre Dame colors and logos ND Golf Hitting Mat BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED • P.O.
