develop him as a player at the next level. It was a pitch that worked. Pride said that the combination of Lyght and running backs coach Au- try Denson — his primary recruiter — made the Irish stand out. "They were very pivotal," Pride said. "Just the way that they connected with my family and handled the in-home visits. With Coach Lyght, I just con- nected with him, and I heard from a lot of different people that in a lot of ways he and I are very similar. "It was just the little things. The way that Coach Denson can just sit there and talk to you about anything and the way Coach Lyght can identify different parts of my game and show how he can improve them. They just separated from the pack." It's also what helped the Irish hold off late charges from Clemson, North Carolina, South Carolina and North Carolina State. Pride took his first official visit of the recruiting process to Notre Dame the weekend of the USC game. He left campus still committed to Virginia Tech, but made it clear that the Irish had left an impression on him and charged up the board. "I know where I stand with them," Pride said. "Whatever happens, hap- pens." Pride finished his senior season with 45 tackles and three interceptions. He added 1,500 all-purpose yards on of- fense and was invited to play in the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl. "I want to be the best cornerback in Notre Dame's class," he said. "I want to be the best to come out of Notre Dame. I have huge goals." ✦ 2016 VINTAGE ND FooTbAll CAlENDArs BLUE AND GOLD ILLUSTRATED PO BOx 2331 • Durham, NC 27702 Visit our online store! www.BlueGoldOnline.com 1-800- 421-7751 IN sToCK NoW — Makes A Great Holiday Gift!
