2016 RECRUITING ISSUE coordinator sees something in you to do that." VanGorder and defensive backs coach Todd Lyght immediately put the full- court press on Elliott. Along with his mother and father, Elliott decided to make a trip up to South Bend. "I really appreciated that from him, and I appreciated how they kept it straight with me from day one," Elliott said of VanGorder's visit. "He came all the way out here to see me, so I have to go see him." Elliott and his family drove more than 700 miles last June to attend Notre Dame's Irish Invasion camp. Despite not coming up with the intention of ending his recruitment, he found the appeal of Notre Dame too hard to pass up. "Once I got on campus it was a lot different from anything I've been to. I loved the campus," he recalled. "Coach VanGorder and Coach Lyght were fill- ing me in on the defense, and I'm look- ing around and thinking, 'I can envision myself here for the next four years.'" Right then, he turned to his parents and informed them of his decision. Al- though his parents were supportive of his decision, they tried to get him to be certain of his choice, offering to talk things over first. "We can go sit down and talk about it, but this is where I want to go," Elliott replied. Following that meeting he committed to Notre Dame. Despite constant over- tures from other programs, Elliott never looked back on his decision. "If I could have taken five official visits to Notre Dame I would," Elliott joked. ✦
