PREP PROFILES Calabasas (Calif.) High five-star ju- nior cornerback Darnay Holmes thinks that Notre Dame might be a fit for him. Holmes — who is ranked by Rivals. com as the No. 2 cor- nerback and the No. 17 overall prospect in the class of 2017 — said in early January that he's interested in schools that offer both strong academ- ics and a high level of football. " N o t r e D a m e , D u k e , S t a n f o r d , " he said when asked what programs are standing out. "I'm looking at all those schools with good degrees and graduation rates, because I'm one of those guys that's not just football oriented. "I want to help out my family in the future without football. I just want to be able to give them money when I own a business or work for one, and I can help them invest and stuff like that. I'm just that type of guy that's a family person, and that's what I want in a school." Last summer, Holmes released a top 10 of Alabama, Arizona, Miami, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Stanford, UCLA, USC and Washington. While he said that there has been a shuffling of faces at number of schools because of coaching changes, the situation has remained the same when it comes to the Irish. "I contact Notre Dame a lot through Tw i t t e r, " H o l m e s said. "When [asso- ciate head] Coach [ M i k e ] D e n b r o c k came to my school I was actually absent that day, so I didn't see them or anything like that. But they came again and I had some conversations with them. " N o t r e D a m e seems to be a great place." The 5-11, 185-pound cornerback took unofficial visits to Washington, Nebraska and Arizona this past sea- son. He said that he has been invited to junior days across the country and would like to get to South Bend by the end of the summer. "I'm definitely going to try and take a visit if I have time," he said. "I don't know if they will be one of the five that gets an official visit — I don't know un- til I go and see how it looks up there." Holmes is ranked as the No. 2 pros- pect in California for the next recruit- ing cycle. He also holds offers from Florida State, Clemson, Michigan, Ten- nessee and Oklahoma. — Andrew Ivins Five-Star Cornerback Interested In Academic Schools DARNAY HOLMES ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Calabasas High School Calabasas, Calif.
