68 ■ THE WOLFPACKER play a little bit. "We didn't have a fall tournament where at least two freshmen didn't start for us." In fact, in the fall statistics from Golf- Stat, the four Wolfpack rookies ranked second only behind Florida's freshmen in scoring average at 72.5 per round. "Because of that, the older guys have responded," Sykes said. "They have played and practiced harder. There's been good competition ever since the new guys got here. "That means we will have a pretty good team." Sykes doesn't expect his team, which was ranked No. 32 in the early GolfStat rankings, to be strong out of the gate this season because of Raleigh's unpredictable weather in mid-January. His team managed to get just seven of its nine pre-spring qual- ifying rounds in before it left for San Juan. "We had great weather in December and the early part of January," Sykes said. "But it wasn't too good after that. I still believe we will be a well-rounded team, and I am looking forward to a really good spring season." Page, from Waynesville, N.C., played in all 12 tournaments for the Wolfpack last year, averaging 72.6 strokes per round.
