The commotion started with a video posted
March 1 from the Twitter account of Penn State
wideouts coach Josh Gattis.
Shot in portrait orientation from a cellphone
camera in the Lasch Building weight room, the
19-second video focuses on sophomore running
back Saquon Barkley as he power cleans 390
pounds, tying a program record held by recently
graduated defensive tackle Anthony Zettel.
Teammates celebrate as the mammoth barbell
bounces several feet off the floor when he drops
it following his successful attempt. In the tweet
that accompanies the video, Gattis uses the
hashtags #BeastMode and #FreakShow and de-
scribes him as "the best RB in the country. …
Show me anyone who can do this!"
The video went viral, turning up, among other
places, on the NCAA's official website, where
writer Tyler Greenawalt noted admiringly that
Barkley "looks more than ready for the season to
