MICHIGAN IN THE PROS BY CHRIS BALAS F ormer Michigan quarterback Tom Brady signed a two-year contract extension with the New England Patriots that includes $28 million in signing bonuses and adds $41 million to his deal if he finishes his contract, The Boston Globe reported. Brady will earn only $1 million in base salary next season and in 2017, but the bo- nuses will increase his cap hit to $14 million in each of those seasons. Brady's salary for 2018 and 2019 would be $14 million with cap hits of $22 million each, although Brady (38) is likely to redo those deals if he's still playing. Brady now ranks 14th among quarterbacks in guaranteed money, behind other Super Bowl-winning signal-callers Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, Russell Wilson and Joe Flacco. Reducing Brady's salary decreases his value against the cap. The Patriots are reportedly also preparing for Brady to lose his ap- peal in the "Deflategate" ordeal, al- legations that he knowingly had air let out of footballs before the 2014 AFC title game to make them easier to grip. He'd be on the hook for a quarter of his salary ($250,000) and be suspended four games. A ruling on the NFL's appeal is expected sometime in late spring or early summer. The losing party could either request a rehearing or try to persuade the U.S. Supreme Court to include the case as one of the 80 or so it hears each year, The Globe added.   MICHIGAN IN THE PROS Tom Brady Signs Contract Extension With New England Brady threw for 4,770 yards and 36 touch- downs against just seven interceptions last year while helping the Patriots to the AFC Championship Game.
