HOO'S HOT Recognizing the "Who's Hoo" in UVa athletics — Cavalier student-athletes, past, present and future who are making news around the world of sports. Derek Bard ◆ Golf After being named to the Ben Hogan Award watch list, the third-year has proven that he belongs among the top candidates for the prestigious honor. The native of New Hartford, N.Y., was the Cavs' low finisher in two of the squad's four spring tournaments through April 3, and he has done so in five of the team's first nine events. This year, Bard boasts five top-10 placements, has posted the team's best stroke average (71.31) and was ranked No. 32 in Golfweek's April 3 col- lege rankings. He also participated in the Masters Tourna- ment April 7-10 after finishing second at the 2015 U.S. Amateur Championships. Courtney Bartholomew ◆ Swimming and Diving Nobody in Virginia swim- ming history has ever earned more first-team All-America honors than the fourth-year from Holland, M ich., who picked up her 13th with a runner-up finish in the 200-yard backstroke at the NCAA Champion- ships March 19 in Atlanta. Bartholomew finished second at the national meet five times during her time with the Cava- liers and totaled 19 All-America laurels (includ- ing honorable mentions), which is tied with Rebecca Cronk (2000) for the most in program annals. She also ranks first in school history with nine individual ACC titles, which is tied for sec- ond among all league swimmers. He is the first Virginia male swimmer to be named an individual first-team All-Amer- ican since 2012 (David Karasek). The fourth-year also earned honorable men- tion All-America honors after placing 14th in the 100 breaststroke, which marked the third such distinction of his career. In addition, he was the men's top finisher at the ACC meet, placing second in the 200 breaststroke.
