NEWS & NOTES PRO TOOLS Hackenberg was one of 13 former Nittany Lions to work out at Pro Day. Photo by Steve Manuel Christian Hackenberg spoke with the NFL Network and Penn State's media reps, but when offered the opportunity to handle questions from a huge media contingent, the 21-year old quarterback passed. His performance spoke for itself. Delivering pass after pinpoint pass to graduated tight end Kyle Carter and former Nittany Lion wideout Derek Moye, Hacken- berg received plenty of admiring looks as he put the ball right onto the fingertips of his receivers during Penn State's Pro Day gath- ering at Holuba Hall on March 17. And al- though he declined to speak to the media afterward, his quarterback guru, Jordan Palmer, was happy to provide an appraisal of Hackenberg's effort. "I honestly think it was an A. I'm not cov- ering anything up, I thought it was great," Palmer said. "I thought he spun the ball re- ally, really well, which was something that there were questions on coming off the tape [of his performances at Penn State]. I thought he was really on balance, really smooth. He got hit a lot [during the past two seasons], so it's hard to be smooth and be on balance." One of 13 former Nittany Lions to work out for the assembled scouts at Pro Day, Hackenberg had been working with Palmer since wrapping up his college career in the TaxSlayer Bowl in January, hoping to en- hance his stock as the NFL Draft approach- es. Palmer is a former NFL quarterback turned QB tutor who two years ago helped F O O T B A L L Hackenberg makes case as draft nears
