24 ■ THE WOLFPACKER s W ith just a few months left on the $35 million renovations of historic Reynolds Coliseum, the new configuration of the building is taking shape. To provide some perspective, the new midcourt for basketball will be approximately where the south baseline had previously been. Four years in the making, the project remains on schedule for completion in mid-August and is also on budget. When finished, the building will provide an improved home for women's basketball, vol- leyball, wrestling and gymnastics. Student-athletes, coaches and sup- port staff should begin moving into Reynolds at the end of August. Volleyball will officially christen the new Reynolds with a home tournament on the weekend of Sept. 10. A grand opening gala in September is in the planning stages. Among the recent developments are much-needed new windows, the frameworks for the Athletics Walk of Fame & History and a concession stand on the opposite end, clearing out space for new seats and progress on the facelift for the new-look concourse. One of the centerpieces of the Athletics Walk of Fame & History will be an original art installation by Beth Nybeck from Kansas City. She will create four wolves bounding up the staircase of the grand hall, with the top wolf roughly 12 feet tall. "It's a signature piece that fans are sure to enjoy," NC State deputy athletics director Michael Lipitz noted. Moving forward, Lipitz said the focus shifts to "finish work," which includes flooring, painting, LED sports lighting, the new playing court, the new video board and ribbon boards, and the new sound system. The crew will also begin installation of the exhibits for the Athlet- ics Walk of Fame & History. The project team in charge of collecting memorabilia has acquired and catalogued more than 1,500 artifacts and photos for display, which Lipitz noted has provided a solid foundation that they can build on moving forward. "We had a number of items on hand, but we've been over- whelmed by the generosity of former student-athletes and fans who have contributed items," Lipitz said. "It's been a monumental undertaking to start a comprehensive museum on Wolfpack athletics from scratch, but obviously well worth the effort."
