60 ■ THE WOLFPACKER That two-week home-run binge helped Chance win ACC Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks and made him the most feared hitter in the NC State lineup. "Chance is so big and strong, and be- cause of that I think people miss just how good an athlete he is," Avent said. "On top of that, he's a smart player, a great student of the game. He's also a senior leader. He's just a huge part of our success." Through April 25, Chance was batting .298 with 11 home runs and 39 RBI. He led the Wolfpack in homers and RBI and was tied for second in the ACC for home runs. When the Pack won 10 of 13 games in early April, including seven of nine in conference play, Chance was right in the middle of things. He also was starting to hit home runs in clusters again, with four in a five-game stretch. While Chance has blossomed as a starter, Shane has been in and out of the lineup. He opened the season as the Wolfpack's start- ing left fielder and was hitting .281 with two homers and nine RBI through the first 18 games. He's seen part-time action since late March, however, and now it's a matter of waiting for the right opportunity. 2400 Reliance Ave, Apex, NC • 919.362.5959 Through April 25, senior Chance Shepard was tied for 15th nationally with 11 home runs.
