for true freshman tight end Danny Dalton. In addition to the five experienced cornerbacks and Taylor, another athlete has been added to the mix this spring. Formerly a running back and special teams standout, Nick Scott has been practicing with the defensive backs as of late and is expected to play safety in the fall. As he's made the switch from of- fense to defense, Scott has focused on his DB technique, staying after practice with Haley, Reid and some other defensive backs to polish his craft. "It's hard to make the transition to the defense," Haley said, "but he's an athletic kid, as you guys [have seen from him] playing special teams and running back. So he's fitting right in with the defense. He's work- ing on a little technique and funda- mentals, but I think his athleticism is going to help make his transition faster." Scott's mindset, too, will help him ease into his new role. Said Haley, "I think he's handled it very maturely. He's one of those guys who is going to do anything to help the team. He's a strong guy. He's athletic, has long arms, so he can handle maybe bigger receivers and tight ends, if we need him to handle that." As for Haley's future, that is still a bit vague. He's a two-year starter who has played both boundary cor- nerback and nickel at Penn State, and there has been speculation as to where he will spend most of his time as a junior. For now, however, Haley isn't dwelling on where he will line up. "Where Coach needs me, I'll be," he said. "Right now as corners in the spring, we run on both sides – field and boundary. I think I'm com- fortable anywhere, so wherever Coach wants to put me – in the nick- el, field or boundary – I think any- thing works out." ■ O F F E N S E S P E C I A L T E A M S P R O J E C T E D P R E S E A S O N D E P T H C H A R T D E F E N S E OR OR OR OR OR OR OR OR OR OR OR OR OR OR OR OR OR KICKER 95 Tyler Davis (5-11, 178, R-Jr.) 99 Joey Julius (5-10, 259, R-So.) – Alex Barbir (5-9, 195, Fr.)
