HOCKEY RECRUITING
Second Defensive Pairing
Left Right
Fr. Griffin Luce So. Joe Cecconi
Like Boka, Cecconi was also peaking at
the end of his freshman season, and the
combo of Luce (6-3, 214) and Cecconi (6-2,
205) could make for the most physical
pairing Michigan has featured in a long
time.
Third Defensive Pairing
Left Right
Jr. Sam Piazza Fr. Luke Martin
Piazza played in 16 games this past
year, was named to the Great Lakes In-
vitational All-Tournament team and he's
ready for a permanent role. Martin will
have to fend off fellow rookie Christian
Meike and senior Kevin Lohan.
Goalie
Fr. Jack LaFontaine,
Fr. Hayden Lavigne,
Sr. Zach Nagelvoort,
So. Chad Catt
The coaches speak with more enthusi-
asm in their voice when they discuss La-
Fontaine's potential, though the top three
will all be given a chance to win the start-
ing job. It's very likely that U-M rotates two
netminders through the first few months.
Nagelvoort is coming off the worst sea-
son of his career and has to rebound sig-
nificantly to be a legitimate challenger.
Defenseman Griffin Luce — the highest-rated
signee at No. 70 in the NHL Central Scouting
Service's rankings for this year's draft — will
provide a needed physical presence for U-M.
