UNDER THE DOME Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Caitlyn Brooks — Softball The freshman picked up ACC Player of the Week honors after posting a .667 batting average in nine official at-bats in a 2-1 series win against North Carolina State May 7-8. Brooks, a 2015 NFCA third-team All-America selection as a senior at Burbank (Calif.) High, hit four doubles and one home run in the three-game series while compiling seven RBI and three runs scored. Rydar Garnsey — Lacrosse The freshman attackman, who was listed as the No. 1 player at his position in the 2015 recruiting class by Inside Lacrosse, was named ACC Freshman of the Year after accounting for 33 points (23 goals and 10 assists) during the regular season. Garnsey's point total was the third highest for the Irish in the regular season, trailing only sophomore attackman Mikey Wynne (34) and senior attackman Matt Kavanagh (45). Samantha Giacolone — Lacrosse The freshman goalie was named National Rookie of the Week by Inside Lacrosse April 26 after helping hold then-No. 5 USC and then-No. 15 Ohio State to single-digit scoring totals. Giacolone, a USA Today first-team All-American as a senior in high school, stopped 9 of 14 (64.3 percent) shots against USC in a 5-4 loss April 18 and notched eight saves in the a 17-9 win over Ohio State April 23. Quinn Gleason — Tennis The senior was named second-team All-ACC for the second straight season and owned a 14-10 record in dual matches at No. 1 singles, including a 6-9 record against nationally ranked foes, heading into NCAA Championship play versus UCLA May 13. The former three-time all-state selection from Mendon, N.Y., was ranked No. 49 overall nationally in the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings as of May 5. TOP OF THE CLASS
