The 6-6, 225-pound Perkins is a can-
didate to land an offer if he impresses
Gilmore. The basketball forward
turned defensive end was on campus
for a spring practice in April and is
still learning the position. He has been
described as a developmental pros-
pect, but the Irish are expected to take
a handful of defensive linemen this
spring, which means they could take a
chance on someone with a high ceiling.
COMMIT WATCH?
Anytime Notre Dame hosts mul-
tiple prospects, the question always
is: Will anyone commit? History sug-
gests that the answer will be yes, al-
though it won't be easy to project
who pulls the trigger and makes a
decision on the spot.
Last June when Elliott and Stepher-
son arrived on campus, neither was
considered by many in the media
to be priority targets for the Irish.
Apparently the Notre Dame coaches
didn't get the message. Elliott com-
mitted to the Irish when he met with
Kelly before the workout inside the
stadium. Stepherson committed
hours later at midfield.
The best bet out of the expected
visitors to join Notre Dame's recruit-
ing class is probably Carter. The
6-2, 180-pound Florida native, who
is listed as the No. 35 safety in the
