Dear Cavalier Fans, We have completed a very successful Spring Social Tour with our 16th and final event in Charlottesville on June 2 featuring head football coach Bronco Mendenhall and the football coaching staff. With record crowds at each event, it is evident that there is great enthusiasm for Virginia athletics throughout our donor base. This month marks the end of the fiscal year for the University of Virginia, which means we have to make all of our final scholarship and athletics academic affairs budget support payments for the current academic year. With the help of thousands of donors, we are able to write checks to fund all 316.6 athletics scholarships and a $1.2 million academic support operational budget. In addition, we are able to transfer funds to the athlet- ics department via our Friends Of annual giving programs to assist with budget support for our Olympic sports. Funding for these three areas is critical to the overall success of each of our 25 sports and all 650 student-athletes; and is entirely dependent on the generosity of our donors. Thank you! We are also nearing the mid-year point of the 2016 VAF fundraising year and are closely tracking the progress of our Annual Fund. We are currently 3.5% ahead of our 2015 Annual Fund total for the same time period. We are very thankful and encouraged by the number of donors who have increased their pledge by 10% — over 2,400 donors in the first five months. Additionally, over 500 have increased their pledge to the next giving level and we have added 500 new donors so far this year. We will need to add to all of these categories between now and December in order to meet all of our fundraising targets for 2016. There are still many donors who wait until the second half of the year to make pledges. We always encourage donors to make pledges as early as possible in the year, even if the payments are not made until December. It is very helpful to know we can count on your support.
