MICHIGAN FOOTBALL The Wolverines play their first road game at Rutgers Oct. 8, in a night at- mosphere beginning at either 7 or 8 p.m. Following a bye week Oct. 15, they host Illinois in a 3:30 p.m. home- coming contest. Only one of the final six games has a fixed starting time. Michigan's Nov. 12 contest at Iowa will kickoff at 8 p.m. EST. JOHN O'KORN WINS PASSING CHALLENGE AT MANNING PASSING ACADEMY Michigan redshirt junior quarterback John O'Korn continues to show why many believe he'll be U-M's starter this fall. O'Korn was one of 33 college quar- terbacks who "put on a show" for more than 1,200 campers and their families during the main event of the 21st an- nual Manning Passing Academy in late June. HoumaToday.com reported O'Korn and Southern Mississippi's Nick Mul- lens were crowned co-champions of the Papa John's Air-it-Out and IBERI- ABANK Quarterback Challenge after neither could separate themselves after five rounds of competition at Nicholls State University's stadium. "Quarterbacks opened the night by putting on an exhibition throwing routes to receivers from high school and Nicholls," they reported. "Receiv- ers ran slants, 12-yard curls, 18-yard outs and ins, go routes and deep posts. Crowds responded with 'oohs,' 'ahs' and applause every time a quarterback and a receiver connected on a long throw. "During the passing challenge, the Michigan redshirt junior quarterback John O'Korn was among the 38 college quarterbacks who served as counselors at the 21st annual Manning Passing Academy in late June.
