here likely were many subtle and
unseen intangibles for the Notre
Dame coaches to dissect last April
when the Notre Dame quarterback
derby between junior DeShone Kizer
and senior Malik Zaire took center
stage at the stadium during the Blue-
Gold Game.
So even though it appeared as if
Kizer outplayed Zaire in the scrim-
mage, the Irish coaches and much of
the media reported after the game that
nothing happened during this annual
spring fling for a favorite to emerge as
the opening day starter.
"I think I'm going to have to make
a judgment call," Notre Dame head
coach Brian Kelly said of how he will
approach training camp next month.
"I don't know when I'll make it, but

Last year, Kizer started 11 games, and posted the fourth-highest rushing total (520 yards) ever by an
Irish quarterback and the sixth-best single-season passer rating (150.0) in school history.
