are clearly superstars, but it feels good to be
out of the days when ND consistently came up
with classes that had glaring holes.
They do have the talent to beat most teams
in a playoff (they have to perform at the right
time). … If the defense could just take a step up
to just a top 25 defense, they could compete.
BigNDFan80: It's a good class. I still think ND
needs some 5‑star‑type players to compete
for a championship. That's what they've been
missing. ND isn't putting together classes
that will allow them to beat those teams in
a playoff game. The ultimate goal is to win a
championship. The ultimate goal is not to go
10‑2.
CharlestonIrish25: ND doesn't "need"
Alabama/OSU classes to compete for a
championship, but just get 2‑3 more difference
makers in a class and we're talking classes
consistently ranked in the top 7‑8, which I think
gets them a lot closer to that conversation.
… I'm fairly confident that the roster is in a
position to be a consistent top 20 team or
better. So, I look at this more as the next step in
a process to becoming a true contender again.
Patryk: I think we are there talent wise as far
as being better than or at least equal to every
team in the country that is not named Alabama
or OSU. That, in and of itself, is a remarkable
testament to Brian Kelly, the entire staff and
the state of the ND Football brand. That said,
we are still at least a half a dozen to a dozen
top 75 players over a 3‑4‑year stretch from the
big boys in terms of pure talent. But damn, are
we close!
Tross282003: This will be one of the best
classes Kelly has ever had. There is a fine line
between 5 stars and 4 stars. Notre Dame is a
top‑10 team talent wise and will be over the
next 4 to 5 years.
