"I was determined to work my butt off until people would respect the rest of my game, and I think I did that," Guy said. "I'm sure there's still people who don't know me that well that think I'm still just a shooter, but when I get to Virginia they'll see." Just a short time after the McDonald's All-American Game, Guy received what he considered the ultimate honor when he was named Indiana's Mr. Basketball, joining the likes of Oscar Roberston, Tom and Dick Van Arsdale, and Steve Alford. "The McDonald's [All-American Game] is like a higher prestige or whatever, but Mr. Basketball was something that I had wanted since I started playing basketball," Guy said. "It probably meant a little more. I was at a loss for words. When they called my name, I was just frozen. I didn't know what to do. It was a very surreal moment." Guy became Lawrence Central's all-time leading scorer and averaged 23.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game as a senior while leading the program to a 19-7 overall record. During the AAU season, he earned adidas All-American honors. Guy was ranked as the nation's No. 25 overall player by ESPN, and he was No. 44 on Rivals' list. With the graduation of All-American Malcolm Brogdon, Guy knows he has an opportunity to come in and make an im- mediate contribution. However, he doesn't want to think too far ahead. "I'm going to find out a lot over the next three months after I get there for the Euro trip and stuff," he said, referring to Virginia's exhibition tour to Spain in August.
