Mendenhall has said that he plans to keep the up‑tempo and high‑paced style his staff used at BYU and if that's the case, more players are likely to see time than under the previous regime. How Virginia not only plays but develops in the trenches will go a long way towards deciding if it's a successful season or not. 3. How can UVA use running backs Taquan Mizzell and Olamide Zaccheaus together? With wide receivers Canaan Sev‑ erin and TJ Thorpe no longer on the roster, Virginia's wide receivers will simultane‑ ously be asked to step up and also play in a more pass‑happy attack. So how Mizzell and Zaccheaus produce, both out of the backfield and in the passing game, will be a major storyline for the of‑ fense. 5. Is this the year for defensive end An- drew Brown to break out? Many people expected from Brown what UVA got in the first two years from Blanding, but injuries and confidence were a problem early for the former five‑star recruit. In the spring, however, Brown said he felt as if he'd been let out of a cage, to which Mendenhall responded by wondering aloud how Brown might feel once the rest of the defensive packages were installed. Brown is in now in the best shape of his life and seems to fit much better at defensive end than at defensive tackle. ◆
