"Charlie" Bryant stood just outside the north end zone of spanking new Carter Stadium on the afternoon of Oct. 8, 1966, watching as NC State head coach Earle Edwards and his team ushered in a new era of Wolf- pack football. There in the shadow of barely completed A.E. Finley Fieldhouse, he and soon-to-be director of athletics Willis Casey watched one of the biggest days in school history unfold on what had been the bottom of a fisheries research pond just 18 months before.
