SEPTEMBER 2016 ■ 71 ■ BASKETBALL RECRUITING Nate Watson Has Become A Main Man In The Middle Senior power forward Nate Watson, a 6-9, 250-pounder, is scheduled to officially visit NC State Aug. 22-23, and also plans to take official visits to Maryland, Miami, Providence and Wake Forest. Those schools that are receiving the of- ficials are Watson's top five colleges. He is also considering UNC and Kansas. All but the Tar Heels have offered Rivals.com's No. 75-ranked player nationally in the class of 2017. The Arlington (Va.) Bishop O'Connell product is originally from Portsmouth, Va., in the Tidewater area. Last season, Wat- son averaged 13.0 points and 9.8 rebounds per game for Bishop, which is coached by Joe Wootten, the son of legendary former Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic coach Morgan Wootten. Gottfried has watched Watson at sum- mer basketball events in Charlotte, Atlanta and Las Vegas. Pierre is leading Watson's recruitment, and the player noted he has constant communication with the NC State coaches. "They really like me," Watson noticed. "They say I can be a good player … that I'll be a good impact for their team." NCSU is among a few schools in Wat- son's lead group, and he has really only seen Maryland, which he visited unofficially June 5. "It's close to home, and I really like the facilities, the campus, all that stuff," Watson said. He added he will likely sign in the fall. ■ Wake Stone Corporation Five convenient locations to serve you with crushed stone: triangle Quarry Moncure Quarry I-40 at Harrison Ave. US 1 at Deep River 919-677-0050 919-755-7349 knightdale Quarry Hwy. 64 East 919-266-9266 nash Co.
