New offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead will be looking to impress more than just the fans this weekend for Penn State's home opener against Kent State. In addition to future Penn State wide re- ceiver Justin Shorter, who's making the trip to University Park for his first game in Beaver Stadium, the staff is expecting four-star quarterback Justin Fields of Kennesaw, Ga., to be in attendance. The trip will be Fields' second visit to Penn State since the summer, but maybe more important, it could also prove to be his last. "I'll be coming up there [this] weekend," Fields said. "I've taken two visits to Ten- nessee [Aug. 21] and North Carolina [Aug. 14] recently, and I'm now planning to see Penn State [Sept. 3] and Northwestern, which will be on Sept. 10. "Those schools are the four that have been recruiting me the hardest. I'm plan- ning to make a decision around the mid- way point of my season then, so maybe like the fourth or fiBh game, somewhere around there. I haven't figured that part out yet. I just know I want to see these other two schools first, then go from there." Fields' relationship with Penn State goes back to the spring, but it became much more serious just last month, when he re- ceived an offer from the staff following camp on July 17. Since then, Fields has been speaking with either Moorhead or head coach James Franklin every few days. "I talk to them probably every three or four days," Fields said. "I try to get on the phone with Coach Franklin and Coach Moorhead whenever I can. I like Coach Moorhead a lot. I feel like I fit into the sys- tem he runs. I like the offense he had at Fordham. We've been mainly just talking about that, plus their upcoming season and mine, which just started. "With Coach Franklin, I think we truly connect. I think we're both kind of similar in some ways. He sees eye-to-eye with me. That's the best way to probably put it. But I think he did some great things at Vanderbilt. I'm confident in him and his coaching skills. I think he'll get Penn State back on top." Since camp took up most of the day, Fields wasn't able to see much of Penn State's campus during his previous visit. That's expected to change this time around. "I didn't get to check out the campus a lot, mainly because I was there for their camp. I thought the stadium was very nice and I saw their facilities. But I know that when I get back up there, we're going to see the game and then go on a full campus tour and things like that the next day. So I should get a good feel for everything then." Harrison High School started off its sea- son with a victory, defeating East Pauld- ing, 45-14. Fields threw for 219 yards and four touchdowns and added 67 yards rushing and another touchdown on the ground. A member of the Rivals250 for the Class of 2018, Fields is the nation's ninth- ranked dual-threat quarterback. Boston College, Duke, East Carolina, North Car- olina State, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Yale have all extended offers.
