OCTOBER 2016 THE WOLVERINE 11   INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS 1 Is where the Wolverines rank in NCAA.com's listing of the best uniforms in the Big Ten. Anthony Chiusano noted it's a close competition between rivals Ohio State and Michigan, but went with the Maize and Blue, writing: "I'll give the edge to the Wolverines, who unveiled their new Jump- man set inspired by Jordan brand that honors the uniform's tradition while also taking it to the next level. The number and letter font is slightly different than those on the program's previous adidas jerseys, while the color scheme and basic pattern remain the same. Michigan already announced that it will wear no special alternate jerseys this season, and why would you when your standard apparel looks this good?" 2 Punt returns for touchdowns by Michigan against Colo- rado — redshirt sophomore Jabrill Peppers scored on a 54-yarder while sophomore wideout Grant Perry scooped up a punt blocked by fifth-year senior tight end Michael Jocz and ran it back six yards to get Michigan on the board in its week-three win over Colorado. It was just the second time ever U-M had multiple punt returns taken back to the house in a single game (1954). 3 Former Michigan quarterbacks were on NFL rosters for week one — tying for the fourth most nationally. The total includes Ryan Mallett of the Baltimore Ravens, who only played one season in Ann Arbor before finishing his career at Arkansas, but the study counted a player towards any school where he took an official snap. The other two are Patriots' starter Tom Brady and Jaguars' backup Chad Henne, while rookie Jake Rudock is on the Lions' practice squad. 9.5 Tackles for loss for redshirt sophomore linebacker Jabrill Peppers through three games, which led the country. It also means he is on pace for 41 tackles for loss in 13 games; Shawn Crable's 2007 school record is 28.5 and the NCAA record is 32 (South Florida's George Selvie in 2007). 14 Points that Michigan trailed Colorado by before coming back for a 45-28 victory in week three. It was the 14th time in school history that U-M came back from a two-touchdown deficit — and the first since trailing 21-7 at Connecticut in 2013. 107 Career receptions for senior Jake Butt through the first three games of 2016, making him just the third tight end in program history to reach triple digits. He needs just 26 catches and 628 receiving yards to break Jack Clancy's current career marks for the position (132 catches for 1,919 yards). His 10 receiving touchdowns are tied for second, trailing Jerame Tuman's 15. 159 Points scored in the Wolverines' first three games, which stands as the most in program history during that span, breaking the old mark of 142 set in 1892. 268 Straight games that Michigan has played in front of more than 100,000 fans at MICHIGAN STADIUM after drawing 110,042 against Colorado. Each of their first three opponents — Hawai'i and UCF were the first two — played in front of more fans at The Big House than they had ever before in their history. 2007 Was the last time before 2016 that U-M appeared in the top five of the Associated Press poll (preseason, before losing to Appalachian State). They rose to No. 5 in the rankings after the season-opening win over Hawai'i and were No. 4 heading into Big Ten play. By The NUMBERS PHOTO BY LON HORWEDEL
