WOMEN'S SOCCER 6-1-1 Overall, 2-0-0 Big Ten Following a 2-0 victory over Ole Miss Sept. 2, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Jackson was named Big Ten De- fensive Player of the Week after she re- corded her fourth career shutout against the Rebels … Sophomore forward Reilly Martin, redshirt junior midfielder/for- ward Ani Sarkisian and senior forward Nicky Waldeck were each named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors list, mark- ing the second straight year Sarkisian and Waldeck earned the accolade … Sarkisian, senior midfielder/forward Madisson Lewis and senior midfielder Jessica Heifetz have been named team captains for the 2016 season … Two of the Wolverines' upcoming contests will be nationally televised on the Big Ten Network, home matchups against Rutgers Sept. 29 and Minnesota Oct. 16, with seven others streaming live on BTN Plus … Michigan beat then-No. 12 Notre Dame 2-0 Aug. 25, marking the first regular-season win over the Fight- ing Irish since 2003 … After defeating UC Riverside Sept. 9, the Wolverines im- proved to 4-0-1 at UM Soccer Stadium this season and 43-5-4 over the last five years … Michigan has scored first in all eight of its games this season … The Wolverines have posted four shutouts so far in 2016 and outscored opponents by a combined score of 18-6 … Through eight games, Sarkisian and Martin were tied for the team lead in goals, assists and points, with four, four and 12, re- spectively … Sophomore Abby Kastroll also had four goals … Michigan opened the conference schedule with a 1-0 win at Iowa Sept. 16 and a 2-1 victory at Ne- braska Sept. 18. — A.F. VOLLEYBALL 11-1 overall, 0-0 Big Ten The Wolverines were ranked No. 22 in the country according to the Sept. 19 poll done by the American Volleyball Coaches Association … Senior opposite hitter/middle blocker Abby Cole begins the fall having been named a Preseason All-Big Ten unanimous selection after she led the team with 3.18 kills per set and was named to the AVCA All-Amer- ica second team last season … The team started the season with eight straight wins, completing the Michigan Invi- tational and K-State Invitational while dropping just two sets … The Wolver- ines' first loss of the season came against Pittsburgh in the final game of the Pan- ther Invitational Sept. 10 … Prior to that game, Michigan had defeated Ameri- can University 3-0 and Coastal Carolina 3-0 before losing to the Panthers 3-2 … Sophomore Jenna Lerg was named to the all-tournament team for her per- formance in the Panther Invitational … Lerg recorded double-digit digs in all three games at Pitt, setting a career re- cord of 39 in the final contest against the Panthers … Lerg was also named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 12 … The Wolverines participated in the Michigan Challenge Sept. 16-17, hosting Auburn, Eastern Michigan and Colgate … Michigan swept the com- petition, earning three set wins in its first two matches and finishing the tournament with a tough 3-1 win over Colgate … Junior Adeja Lambert set a career-high kill percentage of .647 in the final match … The team also had a season-high 16 blocks against the Raid- ers. — L.M. ❏ After six games, redshirt junior midfielder/forward Ani Sarkisian leads the women's soccer team in both goals and points, with four and 11, respectively.
