to a coach, if that makes sense. He does- n't talk to you as if he's your coach and that you have to look up to him. He talks to you more like you talk to your friends. He really makes it easy to relate, and I liked that. I feel comfortable with him. BWI What was behind your most re- cent visit? Did you want to show your family the school? Did you just want to visit again knowing you now had an offer? What was your reason for re- turning to PSU before the season got going? FREIERMUTH Both of my parents came with me when I came down for the camp, so they've been there before. I was able to get a couple of other o3ers recently from schools like Maryland, Rutgers and a couple of ACC schools. To be honest, I was never really interested in any other school, except Syracuse. I liked Syracuse a lot. So my parents just decided that it wouldn't be a bad idea for us to go visit both schools back-to-back to help give me a better feel for how they compare. I was actually supposed to visit Mary- land and Duke a4er Penn State, but I knew that wasn't necessary a4er I vis- ited Penn State again. Going back on campus to see everything one more time, I knew this was the right school for me. BWI How active do you plan to be in recruiting? Are you looking to regularly make trips to Penn State for games? Have you been speaking with any of the other committed players? FREIERMUTH Unfortunately, with my schedule, the only game I'm going to be able to make it back for this season is the Michigan State game. I already talked to the coaches about that. But I have talked to [fellow 2018 recruit] Justin Shorter al- ready. He was welcoming me to the fam- ily and saying that our class could be amazing. He was talking to me about who we want to add in this class. I know that I want to win a conference champi- onship, and then who knows what else, so I'm going to do whatever I have to do to help my team get there. If I can help my school by talking to other guys be- fore I get on campus, then I'll do what- ever it takes. BWI Switching gears, do you know what you want to major in yet? Also, how important was Penn State's aca- demic reputation? Did that have a big impact on this commitment? FREIERMUTH I'm planning to major in either communications or business. I haven't 2gured it all out yet. Fortunately, I have plenty of time. But yeah, it had a huge impact. Penn State's academic reputation is phenomenal, and the buildings across campus are really nice. During this past visit, I was able to speak with the academic advisors. That was important. I really like what they have to o3er when it comes to support for the athletes. BWI What are a few things that you naturally excel at when you're out on the 2eld? Also, what are maybe one or two things that you plan to work on these next two years before you enroll at Penn State? FREIERMUTH One of my strengths is just getting a4er it on the line of scrim- mage. I feel like I'm a pretty good blocker. I love getting a4er it and attack- ing people. I also feel like I'm pretty good at picking up on the playbook. As for stu3 I need to work on, I think I can improve on coming o3 the ball faster. I want to develop that more. Also, when I'm running routes, I want to improve on really sticking my foot in the ground and making quick cuts. I want to be as quick as I can be with my routes. BWI Last question. I like to give you guys an opportunity to say something to the Penn State fans. Is there anything that comes to mind? Anything you'd like to say to thousands of Penn State fans? FREIERMUTH I would just want the fans to know what they're going to get from me. I plan to give 100 percent ef- fort, day in, day out. I'll give everything that I have to this program. You can ex- pect me to work hard every single day because I want to win a Big Ten champi- onship and a national championship. I want to get Penn State back to the level they're supposed to be. ■
