There's a lot to look forward to as the Nittany Lions try to build on their program-
best 21-13-4 :nish last season. They are set to face Arizona State and Mercyhurst
for the :rst time, will make their :rst visit to future Big Ten rival Notre Dame, will
take on coach Guy Gadowsky's former team, Princeton, at the Wells Fargo Center in
Philadelphia, and will play a 20-game conference schedule featuring home-and-
home series against the usual assortment of powerhouse programs. But :rst things
:rst. The Lions will open their season at home against St. Lawrence. A year ago, the
Saints stymied Penn State on its home ice, emerging from the two-game series with
a 2-2 tie and a 4-2 victory. Of the 10 teams that visited Pegula last season, St.
Lawrence and eventual national champion Michigan were the only ones to escape
without at least one loss. That's not so surprising given the program's history. It has
made 16 appearances in the NCAA tournament, been to nine Frozen Fours and pro-
