48 OCT. 3, 2016 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED FOOTBALL RECRUITING ROUNDUP • Notre Dame hosted one of the top cornerbacks in the country during the Michigan State weekend in Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian five-star Shaun Wade. The Irish appeared to be a major player in his recruitment, but following the visit Wade's father, Randy, discussed the impact of the Notre Dame visit with the Ohio State Rivals site (Buckeyegrove.com). "It actually makes the commitment stronger because it gives us something to compare to Ohio State," Randy Wade told the site. "When you have something to compare it to, it makes it more real." • The Irish made strong impressions on several official visitors for the Michigan State weekend. El Cerrito (Calif.) High four-star offensive lineman Aaron Banks, Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) High four-star cornerback Thomas Graham and Nashville (Tenn.) East Nashville Magnet four-star linebacker Jacob Phillips all gave good reviews of the visit, and the Irish are in the discussion to land sig- natures from each of the three. Graham may be the only one of the trio, as of now, where Notre Dame is likely the leader. While the Irish are in good shape with the other two, so are other schools like Oregon and UCLA for Banks plus Oklahoma and Oregon for Phillips. • Winter Park (Fla.) High wide receiver and Notre Dame commit Jordan Pouncey visited Miami unofficially Sept. 10 to watch the Hurricanes take on Florida Atlantic. Miami has yet to extend an offer to the talented athlete, but a tender could make Pouncey's recruitment more interesting. • Los Angeles Salesian four-star linebacker Rahyme Johnson appeared to be headed to South Bend Oct. 15 for an official visit when the Irish take on the Cardinal of Stanford. That trip may be on hold for now. Johnson currently has visits scheduled to Nebraska, Texas A&M and Florida. He told Blue & Gold Illustrated he did not want to waste an official visit and wanted to see how hard Notre Dame pushed. The Irish may have backed off Johnson, because of their stand- ing with Phillips. For now Johnson is not likely to take an official to Notre Dame. — Corey Bodden and David McKinney Recruiting Notes Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian five-star cornerback Shaun Wade remains solid on his pledge to the Buckeyes after his offi- cial to South Bend for the Michigan State game.
