win when she's in the gym and I love that. "She tries to compete in everything she does and that's what makes her tick." Given her stats from last season, which included double figure kills in a team-high 22 matches, Kole agreed with her coach. "I've always been competitive," she said. "But I have the need to work hard to be the best player I can be." That Kole has evolved into one of the ACC's best is a testament to Hohenshelt and his staff. "They've improved my game im- mensely," Kole noted. "They did so physi- cally and mentally. Technically I'm a much better passer and defender and more sound. "Dennis helped me understand when it's okay to make mistakes." According to Hohenshelt, Kole is able to minimize her mistakes by the way she performs in practice. "Kids come into the gym and they're the best player in everything they've done," he said. "She was the best player since 10th grade.
