www.BLUEANDGOLD.com OCT. 10, 2016 47 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ROUNDUP Recruiting Notes • Notre Dame hosted a pair of talented 2018 Pennsyl- vania prospects at the Duke game Sept. 24. Three-star linebacker Charlie Katshir and four-star tight end Zack Kuntz visited the Irish together, and both reportedly enjoyed themselves. Katshir and Kuntz, who is ranked as the top tight end in the junior class, are old friends and have been playing sports together since they were little. Though they do not attend the same high school, Katshir said that playing together in college would be a "dream come true" for the duo. • According to Buena Park (Calif.) High School football coach Anthony White, four-star Buena Park cornerback Elijah Gates has legitimate interest in Notre Dame and will most likely take an official visit following the sea- son. White said that Gates, Rivals' No. 22 cornerback and No. 224 overall player nationally, wants to take the visit after the season so he can get more face time with the coaches than would be possible during a home game weekend. On Aug. 26, Gates included Notre Dame on the list of his final seven schools with Nebraska, Oregon, UCLA, Cal, TCU and Michigan. White said that he expects Gates to trim his list in October. As of now, Gates has official visits planned to Oregon and TCU. • Notre Dame sent out its newest offer in the class of 2018 Sept. 27 to four-star Plantation (Fla.) American Heri- tage cornerback Pat- rick Surtain Jr., the No. 1 cornerback and No. 10 overall player in the class of 2018. He is the son of former NFL cornerback and three-time Pro Bowler Patrick Surtain. Surtain's early reac- tion to the offer was positive. "I'm very excited," he said. "It's an honor." The most recent offer before Surtain Jr. was four- star Rivals100 wide receiver Kamryn Babb of St. Louis Christian Brothers College High, who received his offer Sept. 24. Babb is ranked as the No. 13 wide receiver and No. 78 overall player in the junior class by Rivals. Babb plans on visiting the Irish in the near future. • Atlanta Westminster 2017 three-star defensive end Cortez Alston was scheduled to take an official to Notre Dame for the Miami game in late October, but his plans have changed. He will not be at Notre Dame for the game, and the visit is not likely to be rescheduled. The cancelation of the visit could have something to do with the recent commitment of Rivals four-star defensive lineman Donovan Jeter. The Irish have four defensive linemen in the 2017 class with possibly room left only for a pure speed rusher. — Corey Bodden and David McKinney COMMITMENT UPDATES Games played Sept. 22‑24 unless otherwise noted • LB David Adams: Pittsburgh Central Catholic (4-1) won 42-14 against Harmony (Pa.)
