30 Oct. 17, 2016 blue & gOld illustrated Dame got the ball at its own 29- yard line with the game tied and 3:23 left on the clock. Notre Dame went three-and-out on that series. In the loss to Michigan State, the Irish again gained possession at its own 29- yard line, this time trailing 36-28 with 4:18 left on the clock. Once again, the Irish offense went three-and-out and was forced to punt. Finally, in the loss to Duke, Notre Dame got the ball back at its own 15- yard line with 6:46 left in the game and the score tied at 35-35. On the third play of the series, Kizer threw an inter- ception that gave Duke possession at the Irish 45-yard line. The Blue Devils went on to hit the game-winning field goal. Notre Dame had one final chance in that game, receiving the ball at its own 26-yard line with 1:27 left in the game. After completing an 11-yard pass on the first play, Notre Dame threw an incomplete pass on 4th-and-2 to lose the game. Against NC State, the Irish offense started a drive at the Wolfpack 25-yard line or closer three times. It came away with just three points in those drives. On its final possession, the offense moved the ball all the way to the NC State 16-yard line, but a muffed snap resulted in Kizer heaving an errant pass as he was going down to the ground. "We've had chances in each one of our losses to be that offense that has the ball and makes something happen," continued Kelly.
