J O S H   H E L M H O L D T | B L U E W H I T E C O N T R I B U T O R Penn State picked a good time to have Jaylen Harris on campus. A four-star wide receiver from Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Harris made his official visit last weekend and was in attendance when the Nittany Lions upended second-ranked Ohio State. "I had a great visit," Harris said. "From the first moment I got here, everything was going real good, real smooth and everybody was giving me a lot of love. This was the first time my family got a chance to come down, and they loved it." Harris was accompanied on the visit to University Park by his mother, aunt and cousins. His father was unable to accom- pany them, but Harris was on the phone with him regularly, giving him reports of the visit. Penn State's coaches made sure Harris felt comfortable during his visit by having freshman Anthony Johnson serve as his player-host. "He's from Cleveland, and I went to school with Anthony," Harris said. "We talk all the time, so he didn't really tell me anything I didn't know. He says they want me bad." Harris came away with that same sense of being wanted aAer spending time with the Penn State coaching staff during his visit. "We ate at Coach [James] Franklin's house [on Sunday], and the whole staff seems like they keep it real with you," Har- ris said. "They were saying they really want me here." The highlight of the weekend for the Class of 2017's No. 186 prospect was un- doubtedly the Nittany Lions' 24-21 upset win. "The game atmosphere was crazy," he said. "AAer they blocked that field goal and took it to the house, the stadium went nuts. And we definitely rushed the field." Prior to the visit, Penn State was one of five schools atop Harris's list. The Lions strengthened their position coming out of the visit. "I am definitely comfortable, and it feels like this could be home," he said. The other schools in Harris's top five are Alabama, Michigan State, Ohio State and Tennessee, and he plans to see at least a few more before making his decision. "I don't have anything set up, but I am definitely going to get out and take some more official visits," he said. "Some of them want me to come aAer the season, but I don't know if that's going to work or not." The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Harris has held the same top five since early August. He has not set a timetable for announcing his college selection. Lions extend offer to RB With offensive lineman Chance Sorrell announcing this week that he intends to forgo his last two years of eligibility, it looks as though Penn State will have more scholarships to offer this coming February than had been anticipated. The availability of an extra scholarship opens up some intriguing possibilities, one of which would be to sign a running back in the Class of 2017. The Lions ap- pear to be serious about one player in particular: three-star running back Jon Lovett of Cherokee High in Marlton, N.J. Although he's committed to Rutgers, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound Lovett attended the Ohio State game last weekend and re- vealed via Twitter that he had received a scholarship offer from Penn State. The fact that PSU extended an offer to a player at a position that is not a high pri- ority in this recruiting class indicates that the staff is very high on Lovett. And the fact that he visited indicates that the in- terest is mutual. If he didn't intend to give the Lions serious consideration, they wouldn't be offering. –RYAN SNYDER Lions make good impression on four-star receiver during visit R E C R U I T I N G PENN STATE RADIO NETWORK WAEB............. 790-AM.......
