68 ■ THE WOLFPACKER BASKETBALL PREVIEW 2016-17 ■ Markell Johnson 11 • G Fr. • Cleveland • 6-1 • 164 Analysis: Johnson, like his sophomore teammate Maverick Rowan, graduated early from high school, and he will try to make the successful leap to college basketball this fall. He is reputedly a great athlete for his size and is noted for his penetrating abilities. He will provide valuable depth in the backcourt. Career Highlights: Was a consensus four-star recruit coming out of East Tech High in Cleveland … Averaged 31.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game last season … Was named the Cleveland.com Boys Basket - ball Player of the Year, All-Ohio Player of the Year in Division 1 and Associated Press Northeast Lakes All-District Player of the Year in District 2 … Led East Tech to its first state semi- final since 1972 during his fresh- man season by scoring 27 points and hitting the game-winner at the buzzer in overtime. Coach's Corner: "This is a whole new world for him. I think he has done a pretty good job, and he needs to have a good year this year.
